While reading
this report, ignore the word hypnosis for a moment. Begin to understand
that many of the daily life experiences we take for granted and hypnosis
are the same. As I explained in the previous report, "Hypnosis is when
we bypass the conscious mind, the analytical filter, in order to deliver
suggesions to the subconscious mind which are accepted and initiate
change." Let's look at that definition a bit more closely.
Bypass the
conscious mind... We bypass analytical thinking, conscious thought once
we begin to relax. Think of when we are "spaced out", "in the zone",
"daydreaming", etc. We have left the uppper level of conscious thinking
and consciously drifted off. That's what bypassing the conscious mind
is.
Deliver
Suggestions... The hypnotist / hypnotherapist either in a live session
or via audio CD begins to use sentence structure created in a way that
triggers imagery directly related to the desires the individual has for
change, If a person has a desire to lose weight, one suggestion may be;
"You will now notice that all fatty, greasy, surgary, processed foods
are unattractive, unappealing and unhealthy while the fresh, natural
nutritious foods your body requires to reduce the fat from your body...
as you desire... are more and more appealing to you."
Conscious
and Subconscious... The 2 parts of the mind are the conscious and
subconscious. To understand this easily, imagine we are computers.
Conscious thought is equal to typing a command on the keyboard. The
subconscious would be the hard drive. We have a conscious thought (type
the command) and we can't follow through, like getting an "error"
message on your monitor. The command was not compatible with the
information stored on the hard drive.
We "download"
information since day one of our lives. Much of what we hear and see is
not true or corrupt, like the files on a hard drive. Even if the
action, behavior or thought is illogical, it is what the subconscious
believes is correct and therefore acts upon it. Just as if you had
corrupted files in a program and your computer acted illogically.
Also, the
subconscious does not think or analyze, that is conscious action.
Here's an example... Do not think of a pink elephant. That's right...
Don't think of a pink elephant. You see, anything the subconscious
receives it must act upon. It did not analyze the word "don't."
Imagine how may times a child is told "don't" do something and then does
it. Now you understand why.
That said, the beauty
is that just like the hard drive, the subconscious will do as you ask if
there is a desire for change. And when in hypnosis (relaxed with no
conscious thought process) we access the subconscious and through the
suggestions given, changes are initiated and reinforced through
consistency.
I mentioned that the
suggesitons trigger imagery. This is necessary because this is how the
subconscious functions, through images. If I say, "The pink elephant
had a tea party wearing a tutu", the image appears. And why changes are
accepted this way is because the subscious mind does not know the
difference between imagination or reality. The more vivid the image is
(the more of your 5 senses are applied), the more impact the suggestions
have. You can "imagine" broken chalk scraping and squeaking across a
blackboard or someone raking their fingernails across a blackboard and
actually have a physiological change. The imagined thought brought back
the same response as if it was real.
Desire... is necessary
for no one does anything in hypnosis they wouldn't normally do and
changes can't be made against anyone's will. One gift we received at
birth was free will, choice. Every hypnosis client must be a willing
participate and simply allow themselves to let the natural process of
relaxation happen as they listen and imagine.
Consistency... is
another necessity. Anything we have learned in our lives that became
automatic, habit, unconscious, was due to consistency. It is said we
forget something 7 times before we remember it, like 1 + 1 = 2 or tying
your shoes. One of the misconceptions regarding hypnosis is that one
session and all things change. Not so. Hypnosis is like a match, a
shovel or any tool. Use it and it works, stop and the benefits ends or
decrease. Think of the mental activity like physical activity. Once a
person gets in physical shape, they do not stop entirely, they pull back
a bit and engage in daily activity to maintain their success. It's the
same with hypnosis and meditation. It has now been 16 years since I
first used hypnosis and if I don't for a few days, I begin to notice the
changes as I slip away from the peak of positive thought, feeling and
behavior.
Can it work for you...
YES! There are 3 types of people who can not be hypnotized; Someone
with an IQ below 70, someone who is too drunk, and someone who doesn't
want to OR tries to hard.
By "trying" to relax
or be hypnotized, the person is still consciously thinking. It's all
about "allowing" just like when we sit at the beach, pool or in the
yard. We do not try to relax, we simply allow it to happen without any
conscious thought at all.
Now you most likely
understand the simplicity behind this process we know as hypnosis and
why and how daily listening to the CD's that are available create the
changes desired, naturally, safely and effectively.
The limitations in
your reality are equal to the boundaries of your imagination."
