What is "Covert and Conversational Hypnosis?"
Covert and conversational hypnosis techniques help you to induce
trance in people during "normal" conversation. These hypnotic
language patterns are the basis for much of Neuro-Linguistic
Programming (NLP)...
Milton H. Erickson, M.D., was arguably the greatest
hypnotherapist to ever walk the face of the earth. His elegant
and seemingly indecipherable skill with conversational hypnosis,
metaphor and change work put him at the forefront of the
advancement of hypnosis in the modern age.
Unfortunately, his cryptic teaching style and tendency to teach
via metaphor left us without a clear framework to learn how to do
what he did.
Then, Richard Bandler and John Grinder (and others) went to study
with Erickson. In studying Dr. Erickson, they used their special
skills in modeling and linguistics to figure out what Erickson
was doing. They came up with a set of language patterns Dr.
Erickson used to help achieve remarkable changes and successes
with his clients and students. The main and most effective
patterns Erickson used make up the bulk of this guide.
Covert and Conversational Hypnosis consists of hypnotic language
patterns of Milton Erickson and other great persuaders -
"artfully vague" language which encourages the listener to
project their own meaning onto the words being spoken. In the
process of going deep inside and searching for this individual
meaning, trance-like experiences and trance phenomenon occur.
These powerful patterns often use confusion or conscious overload
to help create an environment in which the mind is ready to learn
something new. It's common for people to experience confusion at
first when learning about some of these patterns. That just means
they're working and you have already started down the road to
mastering covert and conversational hypnosis.

When to Use Covert and Conversational Hypnosis Patterns
Use Covert and Conversational Hypnosis patterns whenever you want
to lead toward a trance or trance-like experience. Use them
whenever you want to fully engage someone, not just their
conscious mind. Use these patterns in story telling, during a
hypnotic induction or when you want to gain compelling rapport
with someone. Use these patterns whenever you want to help create
a receptive state of mind in the listener.
Covert and Conversational Hypnosis language patterns can be used
to intensify positive feelings - toward you, toward a positive
new behavior (such as a diet change or exercise) or even toward a
product.
You can use Covert and Conversational Hypnosis language patterns
to engage the most powerful inner resources of a person and bring
them to bear on the current situation - whatever it is.
In fact, we can't think of a situation where it is inappropriate
to at least consider using these patterns. Because of this, it's
a good idea, as you learn these patterns, to begin to fully
imagine and consider all the ways you will be using them to
improve your life and the lives of those around you.
